Cloud computing is creating the new Wall Street boom, according to NIA. The only industry that is as bright as cloud computing on Wall Street is social networking, NIA said in a recent report. 2012 will be known as the year cloud computing became widely adopted worldwide. Cloud computing is expected to create 14 million new jobs globally by 2015. In the consumer space, Gartner predicts cloud services will be on 90 percent of personal consumer devices by 2015 so consumers can store, connect, stream and synchronize content across multiple platforms at different locations. That's a lot of tunes and apps. So far this year, there have been three IPOs of cloud computing stocks, and all three IPOs have been major successes, indicating cloud computing is ready for primetime on Wall Street. And where the money goes, jobs follow.

In a deal reminiscent of IBM selling its PC unit to Lenovo, its printer unit to Ricoh and its hard drive unit to Hitachi, Big Blue is dumping its point-of-sales terminal business figuring it’s got better things to do like software and the cloud. Toshiba Tec, the Japanese maker of scanners and barcode machines, and 50% owned by Toshiba, is going to buy the business for about $850 million. Toshiba and Toshiba Tec are also thinking about the cloud. The systems IBM’s Retail Store Solutions (RSS) sells are used to process and record transactions, manage inventory and collect and analyze data including purchasing trends. The acquisition will make Toshiba Tec the world’s largest vendor of retail machines and boost its collaborative cloud platform.
"Vyatta is delivering a next-generation distributed software networking environment that is capable of an order of magnitude better performance than our previous generation software on the same off-the-shelf hardware," saidRobert Bays, CTO of Vyatta. On Tuesday Vyatta introduced Vyatta vPlane technology, a highly scalable forwarding plane for next-generation enterprise and cloud network designs. Delivering a combination of speed and flexible deployment models, Vyatta vPlane's fast-path architecture is poised to improve the cost and capabilities of networks for virtualized datacenters. The migration of mission-critical enterprise applications to virtualized environments is producing a perfect storm of networking challenges. The resulting application density and multi-tenancy environments are creating traffic patterns that traditional Layer 3 infrastructure is ill-equipped to address du...

SoftLayer is looking to help them out by offering a new high-performance computing (HPC) cloud-enabled solution consisting of servers powered by the latest GPUs (graphics processing units) from NVIDIA. SoftLayer’s new offering provides an on-demand, consumption-based model for high-performance computing (HPC) users looking to meet the most compute-intensive environments. These environments include traditional HPC fields such as data mining, numerical and seismic analysis as well as advertising agencies, game developers and interactive media firms with needs including video processing and 3D rendering.
According to a 2011 survey by the Independent Oracle User Group, over 50% of Oracle’s customers have deployed or are considering deploying private clouds. Most private clouds today support non-production workloads because enterprises are unable to deploy mission-critical applications in their private cloud. In his session at the 10th International Cloud Expo, Anand Akela, Sr. Principal Product Director at Oracle, will discuss how the same Oracle technology that powers the Oracle Public Cloud enables you to deploy mission-critical applications in your cloud.

Writing in a Trend Micro blog, Asprey - who is one of the leaders in the emerging Quantified Self movement - explains his vision of a world in which personal biometrical data is shared via the cloud.

Want to make sense of the hottest new concept in Enterprise IT? Want to understand in just hours what experts have spent many hundreds of days deciphering? Cloud computing is a technology that has rapidly evolving peppered with a lot of hype along the way. Customers find it hard to navigate through this and make sense of what aspects of this technology will give them real business benefit. Cloud Computing Bootcamp, led by our 2012 Bootcamp Instructor Larry Carvalho, is a great way to get a practical understanding of this technology. We offer multiple days of actionable insight into what vendor offerings are currently available and help you comprehend their strategy. The ever-popular Bootcamp, which is now held regularly around the world, is being held in conjunction with the 10th Cloud Expo, June 11-14, 2012, at the Javits Center, New York, NY.
Did you know that ninety percent of the data in the world has been created in the last two years? Every day, we create 2.5 quintillion (or 2.518) bytes of data, according to IBM. As corporations across all industries globally are struggling with how to retain, aggregate and analyze this mounting volume of what the industry refers to as Big Data, it also provides a unique opportunity for innovative startups that recognize the business prospects Big Data presents. Big Data is not just unlocking new information but new sources of economic and business value. Interactivity is driving Big Data, with people and machines both consuming and creating it. Digital companies focused on becoming good at aggregating and analyzing the data created by the end users of their product, who then provide their customers with solid insights taken from that data are at a distinct competitive advantage over others in the marketplace.

Cloud computing is becoming one of the next industry buzz words. It joins the ranks of terms including: grid computing, utility computing, virtualization, clustering, etc. Cloud computing overlaps some of the concepts of distributed, grid and utility computing, however it does have its own meaning if contextually used correctly. The conceptual overlap is partly due to technology changes, usages and implementations over the years. Trends in usage of the terms from Google searches shows Cloud Computing is a relatively new term introduced in the past year. There has also been a decline in general interest of Grid, Utility and Distributed computing. Likely they will be around in usage for quit a while to come. But Cloud computing has become the new buzz word driven largely by marketing and service offerings from big corporate players like Google, IBM and Amazon.
SYS-CON Events announced today that Cloud Expo 2012 New York, the 10th International Cloud Computing Conference & Expo, will take place June 11-14, 2012, at the Javits Center in New York City. Over 400 corporate sponsors and 20,000 industry professionals have participated in Cloud Expo since its inception, more than all other Cloud-related events put together. "10th Cloud Expo is trending to be both the biggest ever and the best-attended event in the international Cloud Expo series to date, so it is only natural that we should be holding it in the biggest and best conference venue anywhere on the East Coast, the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center," stated Carmen Gonzalez, CEO of Cloud Expo. "If you are not at Cloud Expo New York, June 11-14, at the Javits Center, then you risk not getting the relevant parts of your IT infrastructure into the Cloud in time."
Hadoop, MapReduce, Hive, Hbase, Lucene, Solr? The only thing growing faster than enterprise data these days is the landscape of big data tools. These tools, which are designed to help organizations turn big data into opportunities, are gaining deeper insight into massive volumes of information. A recent Gartner report predicts that enterprise data will increase by 650% over the next five years, which means that the time is now for IT decision makers to determine which big data tools are the best - and most cost-effective - for their organization.
