As workers continue to demand business apps on their connected devices, the mobile cloud will play a key role in changing the enterprise IT landscape forever. The mobile cloud provides users with the ability to go beyond the capabilities of their smart devices by offering unlimited data storage, processing services and other functions not native to the devices – typically through the intermediary of mobile apps. In his session at the 10th International Cloud Expo, Faraz Syed, President, Keynote DeviceAnywhere, will discuss how, to make it work, companies must plan for the whole application life cycle from development and testing through to monitoring, or risk failing to realize the potential of the mobile cloud.
Server application virtualization and cloud on-boarding pioneer appzero welcomes Giovanni Boschi to its executive leadership team as CTO. As Chief Technology Officer, Giovanni Boschi is responsible for appzero's product direction as well as for working with customers and partners to implement effective solutions. Commenting on his new position, Giovanni said, "appzero stands at the intersection of cloud adoption and enablement with a solution that automates cloud on boarding and migration of enterprise applications. For the first time, cloud providers and enterprise IT now have a ready path to dramatically increase the volume, speed, and cost-effectiveness of deploying complex enterprise applications to the cloud. I look forward to helping the market make the transition from talking about the advantages of hybrid cloud, to enjoying them." appzero CEO, Greg O'Connor noted, "appzero chan...
The Dramatic Shift in Cloud Computing Intentions
A new survey suggests that as cloud moves into the mainstream of business, it brings new sources of anxiety as well. This disruption and the dramatic shift in cloud computing intentions over the past few years is revealed in a report by Saugatuck Technology. “Buying and deployment patterns have shifted rapidly toward a near full embrace of the cloud, from the more tactical and point solution-focused initiatives not long ago,” writes Bill McNee, author of the report. Saugatuck Technology conducted in-depth interviews with CIOs and CTOs at 12 large organizations. The CIOs and CTOs see themselves as now entering a “crisis of opportunity” and innovation, McNee wrote in the report. The crisis is about more than just a revolution in service delivery, McNee said. The dilemna is also fueled by the drive toward mobility, advanced analytics and social business. What this calls for is “a new miss...
Do applications using NoSQL still require performance management? Is it always the best option to throw more hardware at a MapReduce job? In both cases, performance management is still about the application, but “Big Data” technologies have added a new wrinkle. In his session at the 10th International Cloud Expo, Michael Kopp, Technology Strategist at dynaTrace Software, will explain some of the main application performance problems of “Big Data” applications and how to solve them.
Multi-FaaSited Approach to the Cloud at Cloud Expo New York
“Cloud” promises Flexible IT. Cloud has also taken various forms of every aaS imaginable. Determining the right model for the developer is just as confusing as it is for the end user. The primary reason – multi-vendor, cross-platform components are needed to truly deliver on the promises of flexible IT through integrated, cloud solutions. Hybrid has extended from internal to external connectivity – to easy management of multiple platforms from multiple vendors. In his session at the 10th International Cloud Expo, Mike Robski, VP of Research & Development at Hostway, will provide a technical perspective on how developers can create and service companies can integrate utilizing open API calls to deliver fully customized, service-rich solutions to the market. From a business perspective, learn how this approach has helped Hostway and its partners jointly deliver high-value solutions to ...
Information Security and Risk has become a top concern of IT organizations and consumers alike. Concern about inadequate Info Security remains the #1 obstacle to greater adoption of Cloud Computing, according to Intel’s research. The rapid growth of Mobile and IP-connected Embedded devices, Cloud Computing, Social Networks, and “Consumerization of IT” is being met with, and in some cases contributing to, an escalating number and complexity of Cyber-threats. Tenants of the cloud need the ability to assess security standards, trust security implementations, and prove infrastructure compliance to auditors. In his session at the 10th International Cloud Expo, Steve Orrin, Sr. Security Architect & Principal Engineer for the Cross Platform Technology group at Intel Corp., will describe the technologies and capabilities that provide reporting on the configuration of the virtual infrastructure...

Cloud Computing: IBM Sells POS Unit in Lenovo-Like Deal
In a deal reminiscent of IBM selling its PC unit to Lenovo, its printer unit to Ricoh and its hard drive unit to Hitachi, Big Blue is dumping its point-of-sales terminal business figuring it’s got better things to do like software and the cloud. Toshiba Tec, the Japanese maker of scanners and barcode machines, and 50% owned by Toshiba, is going to buy the business for about $850 million. Toshiba and Toshiba Tec are also thinking about the cloud. The systems IBM’s Retail Store Solutions (RSS) sells are used to process and record transactions, manage inventory and collect and analyze data including purchasing trends. The acquisition will make Toshiba Tec the world’s largest vendor of retail machines and boost its collaborative cloud platform.

Big Data: How Companies Transform Challenges into Business Opportunities
Did you know that ninety percent of the data in the world has been created in the last two years? Every day, we create 2.5 quintillion (or 2.518) bytes of data, according to IBM. As corporations across all industries globally are struggling with how to retain, aggregate and analyze this mounting volume of what the industry refers to as Big Data, it also provides a unique opportunity for innovative startups that recognize the business prospects Big Data presents. Big Data is not just unlocking new information but new sources of economic and business value. Interactivity is driving Big Data, with people and machines both consuming and creating it. Digital companies focused on becoming good at aggregating and analyzing the data created by the end users of their product, who then provide their customers with solid insights taken from that data are at a distinct competitive advantage over others in the marketplace.

What Is Cloud Computing?
Cloud computing is becoming one of the next industry buzz words. It joins the ranks of terms including: grid computing, utility computing, virtualization, clustering, etc. Cloud computing overlaps some of the concepts of distributed, grid and utility computing, however it does have its own meaning if contextually used correctly. The conceptual overlap is partly due to technology changes, usages and implementations over the years. Trends in usage of the terms from Google searches shows Cloud Computing is a relatively new term introduced in the past year. There has also been a decline in general interest of Grid, Utility and Distributed computing. Likely they will be around in usage for quit a while to come. But Cloud computing has become the new buzz word driven largely by marketing and service offerings from big corporate players like Google, IBM and Amazon.
